(2007-02-08) Harmony Central Re-Invents NAMM Coverage
Blends audio, video, text, and interactivity to provide wall-to-wall coverage of Winter NAMM 2007.
Harmony Central, the #1 online community for musicians, moved aggressively to provide the most in-depth Winter NAMM show coverage on the web. In addition to well over 130 product videos, the Harmony Central site also opened an interactive discussion forum dedicated to NAMM show talk (which within a week of the show’s close had over 10,000 page views); published NAMM-related press releases online -- beginning before the show even opened; and created an RSS podcast feed.
Winter NAMM 2007 was also the first event covered by the Harmony Central Media Group, an independent spin-off dedicated to providing video content to featured music gear manufacturers, the Harmony Central website, and retailers Musician’s Friend and Guitar Center. HCMG video directors Erik Beyer and Bill Newman work closely with Harmony Central editors/videographers Craig Anderton and Jon Chappell, supported by Video Editor Dennis Kambury and Content Editor Ara Ajizian.
Harmony Central’s Editor-in-Chief Craig Anderton notes, “Harmony Central is positioned as the perfect site to disseminate not just timely NAMM information, but to also deliverdepth and analysis along with top quality video content. The potential of the web to provide audio, video, text, and interactivity makes it the ideal vehicle for trade show coverage, and the increased staffing and formation of a dedicated video group has allowed Harmony Central to realize that potential. Now every musician can participate in a virtual NAMM experience -- the next best thing to being there.”
Bob Weibel, Director of Editorial, elaborates, “Harmony Central already had a reputation for superior NAMM coverage, but we wanted to raise the bar not just for HC but for the web in general. Our coverage of the 121st AES Convention set a new standard by including tutorials and exceptional post-show event footage as well as product demos, but we feel what has been put together for Winter NAMM sets a strong direction that we will continue to enhance and refine in the future.”
The NAMM videos are being presented in the Harmony Central Theater, a separate section of the site that was created in 2006. Scheduled additions to the Theater for 2007 include tutorials, factory tours, and interviews with industry leaders.
The next Harmony Central trade show project will be the 2007 Musikmesse in Frankfurt. Manufacturers who would like to be considered for video coverage are encouraged to contact dkambury@musiciansfriend.com.
