(2007-02-28) Powerhouse Construction Group Announces The Completion Of Their Newest Energy Efficient Green Home
Using the newest energy efficient and recycled product materials, and focusing on advanced construction techniques, Powerhouse proves that homeowners can have a superior energy efficient green home that costs no more than a comparable traditional home.
Scott Jordan, President and CEO of Powerhouse Construction Group, is pleased to announce the completion of their latest project, a beautiful custom home built with an eye toward superior energy efficiency and the generous use of recycled materials.
Built in Troy, Missouri over the winter of 2006 and newly completed, this 2500 square foot home makes use of modern materials chosen for their cost, energy efficiency. Wherever possible, recycled materials were used, without detriment to any other concern.
Some examples include:
1) Applegate insulation, made of specially treated recycled newspapers. This outstanding product is fire resistant, termite resistant, and blocks out significant volumes of exterior noise
2) James Hardie siding, a composite material made from paper impregnated with concrete, and featuring a 50-year warranty, will not rot, holds paint for longer periods of time than other siding products, and is fire resistant.
3) The cabinetry made from recycled wood.
4) The exterior sheathing of the house is OSB made from recycled wood and straw chips.
5) Flooring throughout this home is made from recycled compressed cardboard with a super tough laminate that resembles hickory hard wood flooring. This flooring carries a 20-year warranty and resist scratches, dings, and is easy for the customer to maintain.
6) The super energy efficient fireplaces can heat the entire 2500 SF home. The main source of heat and air conditioning in this house is an energy efficient electric furnace and heat pump.
Mr. Jordan notes that because of the superior R-rated materials, this home is extremely comfortable. Much of the interior work was done during the winter of 2006, when much of the Midwest suffered extreme cold spells. During this time, the thermostat was not moved from 62 degrees yet it feels like 72 degrees inside. Based on his experience with previous projects, and the feedback from those owners, Mr. Jordan estimates that the owners of the Troy home can easily expect to save 50% in energy costs over a comparable home built with standard materials.
Mr. Jordan concludes that this project demonstrates that that it does not have to cost more to build a beautiful home better, with an eye towards environmental friendliness and superior energy efficiency.
