(2008-09-03) Domain Names The Secret Sales Weapon
While other fight for search listing supremacy savvy Internet business owners are qui
As any homeowner will tell you an unexpected plumbing failure can be disastrous. In the past affected homeowners would scurry for the phone book to find their local plumber.
This would be hard for me says Scott Alliy a dedicated Internet professional and owner of several hundred websites and domain names since we do not have a phone book in our house.
Scott like thousands of other dedicated technical professionals would instead get on one of the multiple computers in their home and search for a local plumber.
According to Scott he would type a search of mytown plumbers or even try direct navigation searches like mytownplumbing.com. The business owner who was savvy enough to own the easily memorable domain name would win my business says Scott.
Years ago he remembers in his small town that Mr. Cloutier was the Heating A/C repair guy and Mr. Saveall was the plumber. Today says Scott with the transient society that we live in most people absolutely would not know the name of their plumber A/C/ repair guy or other type of service or repair person.
In other words says Scott in the Internet age name branding is out and search phrase branding is in.
I don't want to know Mrs. Watson the local realtor who in most cases may be new on the job anyways and with whom I may never do business again. What I really want is to buy or sell a home in myTown. If I were searching for a realtor I would probably type MyTown Realtors as a search or attempt to directly access this service by typing MyTownRealtors.com.
Scott adds that businesses of all sizes should be meeting with their marketing staff and determining all the phrases that might describe the business or service that they offer. Then says Scott they should register as many domain names as they can possibly think of before their competition figures out the gold mine that owning descriptive domain names can be.
Scott adds this advice to business owners. "Let the myopic competition fight it out for top search listing while you quietly and confidently acquire all the most searched key phrase domain names and take over your niche".
