Shenzhen, Guangdong ( addpr.com ) August 13th, 2010 ¨C Cheap phones sales are on the rise, with the sale of cheap mobile phones to developing countries largely being responsible for a 13% upturn in mobile phone sales for the second quarter of 2010.
China mobile leader Chinavasion ( http://www.chinavasion.com/index.php/cName/mobile-phones/ ) attributes the continued growth to a boost in quality and lower cell phone prices.
Global cell phone sales rose 13% in the second quarter of 2010 according to Reuters, with cheap phone sales being responsible for a large part of the rise.
This is the second rise in six month with global cell phone sales seeing a 12% increase in start of the year.
According to Rose Li, the PR Manager for cheap phones source Chinavasion, the higher quality of cheap mobile phones is responsible for this growth.
"These days it is possible to get a quadband phone that has a great microphone and a good speaker for less than 70 USD," according to Chinavasion's Rose Li. "They are 10 times the phone they were six months ago."
Strategy Analytics, the research firm who released the data, said that there had been more interest in smart phones but the maker with highest demand was still Nokia, a maker better known for its affordable phones.
However, Chinavasion's Rose Li said that some of the features that were previously only found on smart phones were making it onto cheap phones.
One example used by the spokesperson for the cheap mobile seller was the Wi-Fi phones available for USD 100 and less.
"As more smart phones enter the market you are going to see more standard features that were previously only seen in upmarket phones."
Cheap phones are also getting sturdier as well, according to Chinavasion's Rose Li.
In fact, there were some models that were on par with Nokia's famous 2102 for sturdiness and reliability for a fraction of the cost.
"While it is still a case of knowing who you can source phones through China manufacturers are making more robust cheap phones that can be relied on," according to Chinavasion's Rose Li.
