An Australia-based website launched today [August 26] will act as a conduit and sounding board for a world-wide “community” of individuals and organisations interested in an environmentally sustainable future.
The World Education Network, world.edu, is an international source of information and opportunities, providing and promoting skills, jobs, technologies, products and ideas that have a positive impact on the environment.
A core base of 12 internationally-recognised content providers will update content daily. Writers with an interest in sustainability and the environment from academia, business, technology, not-for-profit organisations and followers of Lifestyles of Health and Sustainability [LOHAS] will have opportunities to contribute their comments, opinions and information to the site. Others are invited to submit content with selected persons being provided a Microsoft live@edu package which includes a prestigious @world.edu email address.
World Education Network’s spokesperson, Kate Cameron, says they are pleased with the response to invitations for selected higher education institutions to join the world.edu community. “With some institutions on board and others in the process of completing their profiles, the community already has a global audience,” she says. “We believe in collaboration with individuals and organisations that invest in the future of our society and act as a catalyst for positive change. We are particularly happy to have a strategic alliance with sustainability leader, Australasian Campuses Towards Sustainability which represents 39 Australian and New Zealand institutions.
"world.edu takes a unique holistic approach to educating its users by bringing together the very best content and opportunities from the worlds of Academia, Business and Technology, Not For Profit and Lifestyle. Focusing on innovation, ethics and sustainability, we are amassing a global team of partners and contributors who are recognised leaders in their fields."
Director of Not For Profit Partnerships, Aimee Sorrell, is delighted with the initial response. In particular she is proud that internationally recognised ‘guru’ of the environmental movement, Lester Brown’s Washington based Earth Policy Institute is a Foundation Partner.
From its headquarters on Queensland’s Gold Coast, the world.edu project has been more than 18 months in the planning, research and development stage. It is now live and accessible from anywhere in the world.
