(Press Release 30-aug-2010) Florida based firm, Harris Corp Monday reported the launch of its new facility based in the Brazilian city of Campinas. According to the firm, the new factory in Brazil is geared at the manufacture of low and mid power UHF television transmitter products to support Latin America’s transition to digital TV. The new plant is expected to manufacture Harris Corp.’s Maxiva UAX air cooled, solid state transmitters.
Harris Corp is headquartered in Melbourne, Florida and is a global communications and information technology firm. It provides services to the government and commercial markets in over 150 countries globally. The company has $5 billion of annual revenue and more than 16,000 employees.
Harris Corp. expects the new plant to enable its customers in Brazil and Latin America at large gain from the competitive pricing, enhanced lead time and immediate access to post sales support. The HarrisA®Maxiva (TM) UAX air cooled solid transmitters will be distributed to broadcasters all over Brazil and Latin America, as well as the Mercosur (The Common Market of the South) amongst other firms in the Latin America continent.
Harris Corp. reiterated that its main motivation for the fresh Brazilian venture arises from Brazil’s robust growth potential in the broadcast market. As such, Harris Corp. expects a domestic presence in Brazil will reflect into prospective business and an increased market presence.

Brazilian broadcasters are preparing for an analog shut down in 2016 when they will be required by law to adopt the ISDB-Tb digital format. To date, only 120 channels out of the approximately 10,000 television licenses that currently exist in Brazil have made the transition from analog to digital.

Harris Corp. expects the new Brazilian venture to enable it leverage a number of merits in Latin America such as the Mercosur trade agreements and the Basic Productive Process (PPB) that gives tax breaks to products manufactured in Brazil. In addition to the above, Harris Corp also announced that it had registered its Maxiva UAX transmitters with the Brazilian national development bank, BNDES, a move expected to allow Harris Corp’s customers get funding from BNDES.
