(2006-07-30) Latest FDA Warnings On Antidpressants Marks 1,700% Increase In Psychiatric Drug Warnings

In only the past 4 years there have been 20 government warnings regarding the dangers of psychiatry’s drugs by five different countries.

On July 21st, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) asked antidepressant drug makers to add two more warnings to the drug labels. According to the FDA, antidepressants such as Paxil, Prozac or Zoloft taken during pregnancy can cause the newborn to develop a fatal lung disease. The FDA also warned that taking antidepressants with certain migraine drugs can lead to "serotonin syndrome," which can lead to hallucinations, vomiting, blood pressure changes, restlessness and death. These two most recent warnings about antidepressants may sound shocking, but they are consistent with the disturbing history of psychiatric drug warnings.

In 1991, the Citizens Commission on Human Rights, a psychiatric watchdog established by the Church of Scientology filed complaints and provided evidence to both the Canadian and U.S government drug agencies regarding cases of suicidal ideation and homicidal acts connected with one of psychiatry’s antidepressants they had documented. Heath Canada did nothing; but in response, on September 20, 1991, the FDA ordered an advisory committee to hold a hearing to investigate the safety and effectiveness of antidepressant drugs. A panel of nine psychiatrists, many with financial ties to pharmaceutical companies, heard chilling testimony from medical experts as well as the victims of these drugs --– and did nothing.

It wasn’t until 13 years later, on October 15, 2004, that the FDA finally ordered pharmaceutical companies to add a “black box” warning to antidepressants, saying the drugs could cause suicidal thoughts and actions in children and teenagers. It took nine months for the FDA to issue another advisory warning doctors to watch for suicidal behavior in adults taking antidepressants.

Now in only the past 4 years there have been 20 government warnings regarding the dangers of psychiatry’s drugs by five different countries including Switzerland, England, Canada, the US and Europe. These warnings were issued on the previously undisclosed dangers of psychiatric drugs citing side effects of drug dependence, addiction, mania, hostility, aggression, psychosis, suicide and violence.

Brian Beaumont, spokesperson for the Vancouver Chapter of the Citizens Commission on Human Rights said, “The UN, the FDA, Health Canada and the European Commission should be encouraged to seek out and eradicate the source of the problem ; psychiatrists who have misled governments, medical agencies and the public into believing their trumped up disorders actually exist. It is baffling how the psychiatric industry has bamboozled the population into believing that they are the authorities in the field of mental health when they are not. Their only solutions to difficulties in life are dangerous drugs and electric shock”.
