January 2007: Ryan Mahoney, Managing Director of Better Homes, went back to school with a recent visit to Dubai English College. The trip coincided with the launch of the “Design a Better Homes Car Competition”.

The UAE’s leading real estate agency is running the competition to raise awareness of the significant meanings behind the striking designs on its corporate cars. Given that Dubai is such a melting pot of cultures, the cars have all been designed to reflect its diversity and represent traditions and cultures from across the globe. Inspired by the Dubai population, the current fleet of cars includes designs such as; Scottish tartan, Henna, Stars, Fire, dragon and a Tribal design. All were carefully considered and designed in respect of a cultural affiliation.

Students from the Dubai English College who were given the chance to check out two of the existing car designs during Mahoney’s visit, were excited by the competition and looking forward to putting their creative talents to the test with teacher Sara Hider commenting “this is a really good way to get the kids involved in something meaningful and fun”

With AED 40,000 worth of prizes up for grabs for participating schools and students, the competition is being run across schools in Dubai throughout February. Winning students will also get the chance to see their work on the move, with the best designs being used on an actual Better Homes branded car.

The competition was prompted by a conversation Mahoney had with a friend who teaches and mentioned the car designs are something that students would love to be get involved with. Following the visit Mahoney commented, “It was great to visit the students and see their reaction to the cars and the competition. I am really looking forward to seeing the designs and using them on our cars”.

Schools wishing to participate in the competition should contact Better Homes on 04 398 9739 or email Kamna.navlani@bhomes.com
